Who am I?

Jaime M. Prout, PhD, is a scientist, writer, and rare disease advocate working to change the conversation around invisible illness, starting with Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS). With a doctorate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and over a decade of experience in biotechnology and genetic diagnostics, Jaime has spent her career advancing the science behind precision medicine, gene therapy, and rare disease research.

Her professional path became deeply personal when, after years of unexplained symptoms and misdiagnoses, she was finally diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). That turning point inspired Connective Issues, a book and advocacy platform that blends patient stories with scientific insight to highlight the real-life impact of underrecognized chronic conditions.

Jaime brings a rare dual perspective to the conversation: part researcher, part patient, and full-time advocate for change. Her work aims to empower patients, inform clinicians, and bridge the long-standing gap between science and lived experience.

She lives in New Hampshire with her husband, Andrew, their four children, Jack, Morgan, Oliver, and Bailey, and their very dignified cat, Princess Meow Meow. When she's not writing or researching, Jaime enjoys traveling, live music, and soaking up time by the lake, ocean, or pool.
